Ingredients

  • rice milk 200 grams
  • sesame seeds 50 grams
  • Astra 200 grams
  • light treacle 1 cup
  • sugar 100 grams
  • vanilla 2 teaspoons
  • oil 450 millilitres

Instructions

  1. First dry roast the sesame seeds. Next heat the sugar and kithul treacle together, once a syrup like mixture forms reduce the flame and start adding the rice flour bit by bit. Then add vanilla and sesame seeds to the same mixture to form a thick paste. Grease a chopping board or a baking tray with Astra and put the mixture to it. To the same pan add 1 cup of water, 50g of Astra and mix together well to form a thick batter. Add this bit by bit to the flour mix to make it smooth and lump free. Heat oil with the remaining Astra and start frying the athirasa. 3-4 athirasa can be fried at once. Once they turn golden brown in color remove from heat, drain the excess oil and store in an air tight container.
